New members are very welcome. Normally we would expect you to have a Club Pilot rating from the BHPA before you join the club. We don't teach you to fly, that's the job of the flying school - details of which can be found on the links page (see above right). We can help you through the transition from flying school to flying our sites. During the flying season, we run coaching days for low air time pilots.
Please note that our communications are by electronic means - this web site, the club forum and e-mails. This allows us concentrate more on flying and less on club admin.
If you get your e-mail through Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo and BT Internet then you should be aware that these providers have a very aggressive anti-spam policy. You are likely to find that they filter out e-mails from us. You will need to add the e-mail address of every committee member to your "safe senders" list or the equivalent. Once you have joined the club you will be able to access committee member contact details - we don't publish them on the open web. The instuctions for doing this can be found on this web site or this web site.
As the membership application process is on line, it would be best to check that e-mails from the club can get through to you. You can use the e-mail check below to get a test e-mail sent to to you. You need to make sure that communications work, before starting the application process. If you are having problems, contact the webmaster using the link at the foot of the page. We might be able to help.
Before you send off your membership form, enter your e-mail address below and press the 'Test e-mail' button. You should receive an e-mail almost immediately. If the e-mail does not arrive, then you need to check the spam e-mail settings on your e-mail account
If you'd like to join us, click the "Join Us" button below to start the on line registration system.
The costs of membership are as follows:
£20 for a Full member
Please note - you must be a member of the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (BHPA) before you join the CSC. Their web site can be found here
On joining you will receive login and password details to the members area of the CSC website which allows you to post articles and view 'Club Documents'. CSC's comprehensive site guide is available on this web site and is updated regularly.
The Cumbria Soaring Club Newsletter - titled 'Spoilt For Choice' is distributed electronically to all members.
Renewal fees are
£25 - membership
We offer a discounted rate if you pay before your membership expires. Providing that your cheque or standing order reaches us before your membership expires, the renewal rate is :
£20 - membership
We aim to align all membership expiry dates with the 30th of November of each year. This means that the bulk of club admin takes place in November/December. Therefore in your second year of membership you will be invited to make a part payment to cover the period from your first year expiry date to the next 30th November. You need to renew before your membership expires, otherwise you have to pay the full joining fee.
The second year payment depends upon the month when you joined. The fees are
|Joining Month||Individual Fee|
All membership communication is via e-mail and hard copy letters are not sent out. Therefore you should ensure that your CSC record has the correct e-mail address.
Around the first of the month when your membership expires, you will receive a reminder e-mail or letter. You can either send a cheque to the membership secretary or you can help to minimise admin by setting up an annual standing order. The form can be found in the members only/club documents area. Complete the form and send it to your bank, not the membership secretary!
If you have not renewed your membership by the expiry date, then your web site access will be disabled shortly after the expiry date. You will also receive another e-mail reminder. You will need to pay the full membership fee to renew.
You must be a current BHPA member before you can renew your CSC membership.
